This week’s learning has given me insight into Quality improvement (QI). I have learned that QI is a systematic, formal approach to analyzing practice performance and enhancing performance.  In our healthcare practice, QI involves employing a systematic change method and strategies to improve patient experience and outcome (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018).  QI in my practice usually focuses on enhancing patient outcomes. The tip is usually to define the outcome that needs improvement, identify how the process outcome will be measured, and create a plan for executing an intervention and collecting data before and after the intervention (Hamilton et al., 2020).

Factors that support EBP implementation in our organization include the organizational culture, leadership support, access to research evidence and information from online databases, and regular training and professional development. However, there are also potential barriers to EBP implementation in the organization like resistance to changes by some employees and a high workload among nurses. The high workload often limits nurses from engaging in EBP activities. This is unfortunate since EBP is essential in nursing practice. It fosters nurses’ decision-making capacity and enhances their ability to develop individualized care plans for patients contributing to efficient patient care (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). My role in research as an NP will be to utilize the best evidence available to make patient-care decisions. I will also e tasked with identifying and translating the best evidence into clinical practice.
