Identify two things that surprised you about the results. Also, identify one idea that you believed before conducting the Assessment that was confirmed. | The first thing about the workplace assessment results that was surprising is employees’ compensation. The results indicated that most staff were not satisfied with their current salaries. Most workers complained that their salaries were relatively low compared to their workload, working hours, and experience. Consequently, staff felt that the organization was not rewarding their efforts fairly, which demotivated them to offer efficient and high-quality patient care. The second thing about the surprising results involves employee value. Employees felt that they were not valued at the workplace since they were not involved in making major decisions affecting the organization. Instead, all the key decisions were made by the top management, and employees were only given a guideline on how to implement new organizational guidelines and policies. According to Dorigan and Guirardello (2018), the management value inputs of all employees in a civil and healthy workplace. Employees are motivated to work in organizations where they feel valued. On the contrary, failure to engage employees in decision-making processes demotivates them, resulting in negative patient outcomes.
One idea that I believed before the assessment, was confirmed by the relationship of the results between lack of collaboration among healthcare professionals and poor quality patient care. According to Rosen et al. (2018), effective collaboration among team members is the backbone of safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Thus, the lack of effective team collaboration among healthcare providers is the most significant factor contributing to poor quality care and adverse health outcomes in the organization.

What do the results of the Assessment suggest about the health and civility of your workplace? | My workplace environment assessment average score is 55%. According to Clark (2015), a workplace environment assessment average score ranging between 50 and 59 indicates an unhealthy workplace. Thus, our workplace is unhealthy and uncivilized.

Briefly describe the theory or concept presented in the article(s) you selected.
Explain how the theory or concept presented in the article(s) relates to the results of your Work Environment Assessment. |
The selected article was authored by Clark (2016). In this article, Clark discusses a healthy workplace in detail, proving healthcare organizations with guidelines for creating a healthy, civilized, and conducive work environment for all employees. Clark (2016) defines workplace civility as a deliberate effort by the management to create an inclusive workplace, which provides psychological safety to employees working at various organizational levels. In a civilized workplace environment, employees are not exposed to workplace incivility incidents such as being discriminated against, bullied, or marginalized. In other words, all employees are valued and treated equally in a civilized workplace. Consequently, employees are motivated to work in such environments, increasing job performance and the organization’s productivity. Thus, workplace civility is the backbone of highly-effective administrative management, a collaborative workforce, and trust among team members.
The concepts presented by Clark (2016) relate to my organization’s Workplace Environment Assessment results. The article points out workplace civility as the foundation of highly-effective administrative management, collaborative workforce, and trust among team members. On the contrary, our workplace is uncivilized based on Workplace Environment Assessment results (55). Workplace incivility is the most significant factor contributing to issues facing the management and employees in the organization. The management does not give fair compensation to employees despite exposing them to high workloads and long working hours, which demotivates and makes them less committed to providing high-quality patient care, resulting in adverse health outcomes. Additionally, healthcare staff fails to collaborate and work as a team during care delivery, resulting in negative patient outcomes. Lastly, the management does not trust the employees; hence does not involve them in making major organizational decisions, reducing employees’ morale.

Explain how your organization could apply the theory highlighted in your selected article(s) to improve organizational health and/or create stronger work teams. Be specific and provide examples. | Our organization could apply the concept of workplace civility to improve organizational health and strengthen work teams. The article emphasizes the role of workplace civility in strengthening management, trust, and collaboration among team members. Therefore, the management should focus on enhancing workplace civility to improve the organization’s weak areas. First, workplace civility and trust will enhance collaboration among team members. Based on the assessment results, lack of collaboration among healthcare providers is a major challenge facing the organization. Hence, enhancing workplace civility will promote collaboration among healthcare workers during healthcare delivery, resulting in high-quality patient care and positive health outcomes. Secondly, results indicated a lack of trust between the management and healthcare workers. Consequently, the management does not involve employees in making significant decisions affecting the organization, which makes the workers feel less valued, reducing their work morale. Thus, enhancing workplace civility will build trust between the management and employees. The management will engage the employees in making major organizational decisions, making employees feel loved and valued, which will boost their work morale. Employees will be committed to meeting organizational goals, resulting in high-quality patient care and positive health outcomes.
|
General Notes/Comments | Working conditions influences employees’ work morale and productivity. In a health or civil workplace, employees’ work moral high and workers are committed to organizational goals, resulting in better health outcomes.
