A careful analysis of determinants of health data among a specific population can be important in revealing important patterns in healthcare, which can be used in coming up with appropriate interventions to address unwanted patterns. Determinants of health are applied in the practicum/clinical settings in initiatives in various ways. For example, health literacy as a determinant of health is used to determine if patient education and healthcare promotion should form part of patient care while admitted and when they are to be discharged (Nutbeam et al.,2018). In cases of low health literacy, initiatives that integrate education and health promotion in the care plan are used by the organization.
Benchmarking and analysis of initiatives used in the clinical/practicum settings are important. Such analysis is key in studying progress. In my practicum settings, the progress is benchmarked by comparing the data with other organizations of similar nature. Such a comparison is key in determining the progress (Kampstra et al.,.2018). The progress is also benchmarked using the expected organizational standards. Analysis of the progress is usually analyzed by comparing the intervention outcome data at various intervals, such as quarterly. Such data has been important in revealing if the direction taken by the initiative is appropriate or not.
Databases can be key in providing data for benchmarking the determinants of health of the initiatives. One of them is the Centers for Disease Control. This database has a range of topics covered and associated data that can be used for the benchmark (“CDC,” 2018). The knowledge gained by patients during health promotion and education to enhance their health literacy can be important be key in improving their usage of healthcare services and accessing healthcare information such as nutrition. As such, such data can be compared with the data obtained from CDC to explore how well the initiative has performed
