(2018), approximately 1.7 million hospitalized patients annually experience HCAIs while receiving treatment for other medical conditions, and over 98,000 patients die due to these infections. Several studies reveal that hospital acquired-infections can be prevented through hand hygiene measures, including cleaning hands with soap and running water and using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, thereby reducing morbidity, health care costs, and mortality associated with these infections (Haque et al., 2018). Therefore, implementing hand hygiene measures, including cleaning hands with soap and running water and using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, will substantially reduce HAIs.

Both internal and external stakeholders will impact the proposed change project. The key internal stakeholders who could impact the change project include the organization’s management, healthcare professionals, and donors. On the other hand, external stakeholders include policy-makers, suppliers, and external trainers. These stakeholders will impact the change project both positively and negatively.

First, the project will experience both benefits and challenges associated with the internal stakeholders. The organization’s management will have a significant impact on the project. According to Marquis and Huston (2017), leadership has a substantial impact on nursing practices. The management will influence the project positively by providing approval for it to be implemented in the healthcare facility. Additionally, the management will provide the project’s specifications to ensure it effectively reduces hospital-acquired infections. The management’s last positive impact involves hiring external experts to train healthcare practitioners on how to implement the proposed intervention. On the other hand, the management will pause a challenge to the project by failing to allocate the required funds. Furthermore, healthcare professionals will impact the project positively by incorporating it into their clinical practices. Healthcare professions implement most change projects in medical facilities since they provide care to the patients (Lavelle et al., 2015). On the other hand, the project will be impacted negatively by the reluctance of healthcare providers to implement the proposed hand hygiene measures during patient care provision. Donors will also impact the project positively by providing the required financial resources. However, they can hinder this project if they fail to approve the requested funds.

Additionally, external stakeholders, including patients, suppliers, and the general public, will positively and negatively influence the proposed project. Policy-makers will positively impact the project if they approve it as a reliable, evidence-based practice incorporated into clinical practices to reduce HAIs. However, they might fail to approve the project making it hard to implement it in the healthcare organization. Moreover, the suppliers will benefit the project by delivering the required resources, including soaps and hand sanitizers, on time. Nonetheless, they might pause a challenge by delaying the deliveries, thereby compromising the implementation process. Finally, the external trainers will benefit the project by educating healthcare practitioners on implementing the proposed intervention. On the other hand, they will pause a challenge to the proposed project if they fail to equip the healthcare professionals with the required knowledge and skills.
