Conceptual Model

As a conceptual framework, the particulate-deterministic paradigm can be used in advanced nursing practice to create a better understanding of the human health experience as made up of different component parts, processes and activities. When adopted as a multiple paradigmatic schema, the particulate-deterministic model positions caring, care and objective nursing as central to the effective practice of advanced nursing (Smith & Liehr, 2018).

Major Concepts of Nursing According To the Conceptual Model

The key concepts of the nursing field include: a person, health, environment and nursing (Holloway & Galvin, 2016). The particulate-deterministic paradigm is adopted considered people/clients in the nursing practice setting as predictable, reducible and measurable entities in causal and linear associations. Equally, the conceptual model presupposes that human beings are separate entities from the environment, and hence the two distinct energy fields operate in an underlying order characterized with predictable antecedents and implications (Younas, 2016). Person

Human beings are isolated, measurable, predictable and reducible entities. Environment

Although the natural environment is the physical landscape and geography of human social experiences, it is subject to continuous change that is causal, foreseeable and linear in nature. The environment can be categorized as personal, social, communal, national or global. According to Smith and Fizpatrick (2019), the environment is comprised of tangible (physical and material aspects) and intangible factors including customers, beliefs, values and cultural practices in a given society. In the nursing environment, clients must gain a better understanding of their prevailing environment in other to identify threats to wellness and health and also to secure caring relationships. As an important arena where the client-nurse relationship is realized and acted upon, the distinct components of the environment (social, economic, cultural, development, political and historical aspects) must be evaluated to determine their specific impact on the person’s health and wellbeing as well as quality of care (Smith & Liehr, 2018).

Health

Whilst health is viewed as the combination of wellness and illness across the lifespan of a person, holistic care must focus on the distinct parts of the individual in the psychosocial, economic, aesthetic, moral and developmental arenas (Younas, 2016). Illness is perceived as to be caused by antecedent conditions, and hence proper identification of these conditions can lead to increased predictability of the particular phenomenon of concern. On the other hand, wellness is considered to be non-contextual and predictable in causal and linear manner. As such, the threat to wellness or the level of health of an individual is primarily influenced by the interactions between the individual components that makes up people and the environment (McEwen & Wills, 2015).

Nursing

The particulate-deterministic model places significant attention on the objective nursing phenomenon (Younas, 2016). As both an art and science, advanced nursing practice strategically combines the art of holistic health care and creative application of relevant nursing knowledge and skills to offer evidence-based care to people with distinct needs and demands.
