Relationship between Management and Learning

Management and learning are intertwined. One cannot succeed without the other. Similarly, deficiency in either management or learning can lead to adverse outcomes. According to Seifert and Sutton (2019), classroom management is all about creating a positive learning environment that accommodates all those involved in the learning process. Furthermore, management and learning are intertwined in that it shapes students’ perceptions of the teacher (Seifert & Sutton, 2019). These perceptions determine how students respond to learning, either seriously or lightly. Therefore, the interrelationship between management and learning demands teachers adopt strong management skills to facilitate successful teaching and learning processes.

What is More Important, Order or Learning

Order is more important than learning. Order dictates how learning takes place. But learning cannot dictate order. Seifert and Sutton (2019) advise teachers to use strategies such as arranging classroom space, establishing daily procedures and routines, establishing classroom rules, and giving timely feedback to maintain classroom order. Most notably, classroom order creates an environment that enhances academic, emotional, and social prosperity (Foster, 2022). Foster (2022) adds that order enables students to maintain attention, minimizes learning disruption and interference, and motivates students encouraging them to be more engaged with learning activities. However, teachers must always be alert while scanning their classrooms to assess what is happening. A chaotic classroom environment cannot support effective learning and can lead to adverse outcomes.

Guidelines for a caring classroom Culture

Creating a caring classroom culture is significant for positive learning outcomes. A caring classroom culture heavily relies on teacher rewards and punishments. Teachers must communicate the significance of learning to students to help shape their focus (Seifert & Sutton, 2019). Also, teachers must be ready to listen to students’ concerns actively and empathetically. On the other hand, teachers can formulate plans to help students who misbehave inappropriately stop their behaviors. Additionally,  teachers can help students appreciate their accomplishments, get them to point out classroom problems, help them identify their solutions to classroom problems, and help them own their mistakes and take responsibility. Most significantly, teachers must hold meetings from time to time to enable students to iron out their issues and find alternative solutions.

Conclusion

Classroom management and learning are intertwined. In this view, teachers must devise guidelines that encourage a caring culture that fosters a conducive learning environment that enhances learning. Creating an orderly learning environment promotes student participation, motivation, and engagement because learning cannot occur in a chaotic environment. Teachers must develop rules and guidelines that direct students to act orderly while in the classroom. Giving too much autonomy to learners encourages them to misbehave. Misbehaving is detrimental to the teaching and learning process and may paint a bad picture of a teacher as a poor manager. However, order can boost management if teachers can create a caring culture within their classes. Nevertheless, every teacher must understand the best classroom management practices for better learning.
