MEDCIN is a medical terminology maintained by Medicomp Systems. It enhances communication by providing terminologies for symptoms, history, physical examination, tests, diagnoses, and therapies (HIMSS, 2019). RxNorm provides normalized names for clinical drugs and links its names to the drug vocabularies commonly used in pharmacy management and drug interaction software. It enhances communication by providing links between these vocabularies and thus mediates messages between systems using different software and vocabulary. Furthermore, RxNorm is the interoperability standard recommended for pharmacy terminology and has some mappings to the proprietary standards to facilitate interoperability (Johnson, 2022).
