APN Intrapreneurship and Interprenuership Contrast and Comparison
As the healthcare industry continues to advance its creativity and innovation, it also considers the role that intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial nursing has in enhancing patient care. According to Marques et al. (2022), nursing intrapreneurs are those nurses employed in developing and delivering innovative nursing practices in a healthcare setting, especially by the government. On the other hand, a nurse entrepreneur refers to those nurses who engage in self-employment but seek opportunities to pursue individual passion and vision in using innovative approaches to improve health outcomes (Marques et al., 2018). Another contrast is that nurse intrapreneurs depend more on healthcare management when incorporating any innovation to improve health. That is unlike nurse entrepreneurs, who are more independent in initiating any innovative nursing practice so long as it leads to positive changes, demonstrates leadership, and provides modernized healthcare services. For instance, nurse intrapreneurs, when implementing technology like telehealth, must follow healthcare protocols from writing the project proposal to notifying the healthcare management of the need for the technology in the healthcare setting (Tracy, & O’Grady, 2019). Since the nurse entrepreneur owns healthcare services, all that is needed is to assess the resources needed to implement the technology and commence the implementation.

Apart from the differences, nurse intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs share various similarities, including leadership and adaptability (Marques et al., 2022). That is because both nurse intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs require effective and strong leadership skills to engage innovation in achieving healthcare goals. Also, due to the unpredictable change in the healthcare industry, nurse intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs must adapt to change to boost the healthcare facilities’ success, whether as employees or owners. Regarding challenges, the main challenge experienced by nurse intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs includes work-life balance, which may lead to burnout-related issues like depression and unstable relationships with family members. Hence, these nurses must always use time management skills to address work-life and family challenges. Conclusively, I would prefer nurse entrepreneurship since it does not limit one’s creativity and innovative ideas, unlike nurse intrapreneurship, where the nurse has to depend on healthcare management to implement their ideas, thus derailing patient care improvement.
