The principles of leadership management have been used in practicum settings with great success. One of the most notable examples is the Cleveland Clinic, a not-for-profit multispecialty academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education. At the Cleveland Clinic, leaders are held to high standards and are expected to put the needs of their patients/nurses first and commit to their growth. Leaders must also be able to effectively manage resources, inspire their team, and listen to their followers. They also need to be able to embrace change and foster of a culture of awareness. The Cleveland Clinic has been successful in using these principles to achieve the organizational goals and provide high-quality care for patients.

From a Christian worldview, being a caring leader requires demonstrating three distinct characteristics: empathy, stewardship, and persuasion (Ortiz-Gómez et al., 2022). Empathy focuses on understanding others in the context of their experiences and backgrounds with an eye towards humbling oneself to serve (Spears, 2010). Stewardship encourages leaders to view their position and resources as an opportunity not just to serve themselves but to use it to help others. Finally, persuasion acknowledges the power of influencing through words and ways of connecting that create a shared vision. Together, caring leaders are able to resourcefully champion effective action and cultivate excellence in an effort towards common good (Spears, 2010). All three of these qualities are based on the idea that individuals are created in the image of God, who values relationships above all else.

There is a great deal of research that supports the idea that a Christian worldview does in fact complement leadership characteristics such as empathy, stewardship, and persuasion (Shula, 2019). When participants are primed with a Christian perspective, they are more likely to show empathy for others and behave in a more prosocial manner. Leaders who espouse a Christian worldview are more likely to make decisions that reflect long-term interests (stewardship), are better at communicating their vision to followers, and are more successful at leading change.
