Both developing and developed countries have major health concerns; however, they differ on a range of prominent health issues. For example, the prominent health issues in developed countries include healthcare system expenditure and eliminating health disparities (Kruk et al., 2018). For instance, in the United States, health disparities exist among minority and underserved communities such as Black Americans, Hispanic Americans and immigrants. Another prominent health concern in developed countries is attaining excellence in quality care. The common prominent health factors present in developing and developed countries include health access, leading to advocacy for universal health coverage to enhancing health access to all communities (Shadmi et al., 2020).

In developing countries, the prominent health issues include infections, lack of health equality, high mortality rates, insufficient public health systems, poor sanitation, poverty, malnutrition, lack of insurance, and inaccessibility of the few available health facilities. Several factors play a role in the poor healthcare delivery in developing countries such as politics, economy, and natural resources. For example, developing countries often have poor economies meaning that building proper health infrastructure is not easy people can barely afford healthcare (Gaudin & Yazbeck, 2021). Similarly, politics also contributes to health disparities. In developing countries, poor governance has seen the majority of leaders misuse public funds and resources for personal gain rather than for the development of an effective health system.

As a DNP-prepared nurse, understanding health disparities is important so that one can contribute to policy development and amendments on the global front, aiming to promote health access and equity (Gaudin & Yazbeck, 2021). For example, a DNP-prepared nurse can advocate for policies that ensure better health access to underserved populations. Additionally, nurses with the support of non-governmental organizations can set up clinics in developing countries to promote access to obstetric and gynaecological services to reduce high rates of maternal and child mortalities.
